I wrote a short tip on clearing e-mails once a week last weekend on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/AnamayaLifeCoaching) and it seems to have struck a chord with a few people so am writing a longer blog on a few ways of how I am making my e-mail life easier and hopefully it will do the same for you:)
1. Turn off the sound indication that an e-mail has arrived in your inbox. The sound will distract you away from whatever it was you were working on, even if you do not check your inbox immediately.
2. If you can, have an e-mail time daily of when you check and reply to e-mails -this way you do not constantly check and reply during the day.
If it is too short for you to just have one hour during the day, then do one hour/30 mins in the morning and one hour/30 mins in the evening.
3. Do a weekly deep cleanse if any e-mails are still in your inbox which need replying to, need filing or just need deleting.
4. When you have set aside e-mail time, it will be easier for you to reply back immediately to an e-mail when you have read it instead of dealing with it later.
5. If there is nothing you can do with the e-mail, i.e. a marketing e-mail/offer you do not want, then delete it straight away and stop it clogging your inbox and cluttering your mind
6. Once you have replied to an e-mail then file it.
Review your filed e-mails monthly/quarterly to make sure your computer is working at the optimal speed and you do not have too many saved e-mails which are slowing the computer down.
7. If you are subscribed to too many e-mail newsletters and do not get the chance to read them, then unsubscribe. If that person/newsletter is meant to be in your life, you will get the chance to subscribe again in the future.
I hope these tips help you a bit and if you have your own, then please do add them to the comments – it is always good to know what people do to simplify their e-mail lives and this can help everyone:)
