Meditation in Schools

I recently read this article in the Times: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/education/article6984113.ece

It is about a school which has introduced meditation classes into the curriculum. The pupils have a 4o minute class per week learning techniques to increase their concentration, stepping back from thoughts of regret and worry, and being able to savour their activities.

I think it’s wonderful and so benefical that children are taught techniques of meditation as this will help them in their later life when they do have stresses and worries. They will know how to deal with these in a way which lets them put them into perspective and seek a solution from a place of calm rather than worry.

Meditation has been taught throughout the ages and in all cultures and religions. It really is a way in which we can become aware of your inner self and have some peace and rest from our all too busy lives. If you would like some more information on meditation and how it can help you, then please contact me via the website: http://www.anamaya.net/Web/Pages/contact.html

I look forward to being a part of your journey into this amazing art.

Is it possible to add time to your day?

I read an interesting chapter in one of my meditation books this morning about time and I thought I would summarise it for you.

Sir Isaac Newton set up the view of time as an absolute thing. A second was a second, no longer, no shorter.

Einstein presented the theory of relativity. He said that to measure time you need clocks and all clocks move, so therefore time is dependent on movement.

Newton’s theory is that time is passing by, independent of whatever is happening; whereas Einstein said that time is a measure of our activities.

This can help us all in practical terms. If we take a Newtonian view and see time as rigid, then we become time’s servant and rush around doing as many activities as we possibly can to cram into every minute.

If we take on Einstein’s view and see time as elastic, then speed is going to govern how fast time seems to be moving. If I slow my thoughts down, time will appear to expand. If I speed up my thoughts, time contracts. By simply leaving a space between thoughts, you can be aware of your thoughts and of the free spaces. As soon as you are aware of these peaceful spaces then you feel as though you have time to spare.

Newtonian time is the time which governs the physical world around us, but through Einstein’s view we can experience a timeless expanse.

The information is taken from a chapter in Practical Meditation by Brahma Kumaris and I hope you can also appreciate this notion of time and try to use it a little today to add some extra space and time to your day.

With love,

Happy New Year!

Well it is back to snowing in Saltdean so I thought I would keep the snow scene picture :)

I hope that everyone had a wonderful, relaxing break over Christmas and are recharged for a great 2010 with a lot of personal and professional growth.

To make your growth run smoothly I have developed my ‘Live the Life you Dream of…’ programme which starts in February.

It has always been my aim from when I completed my diploma in Life Coaching to combine the knowledge of Ayurveda and Meditation I learnt in Coimbatore, India with the techniques of life coaching. The programme will run over 10 weeks with a group coaching call once a week and individual e-mails according to your goal or aim.

The first enrolment is 1st February, for full details of the programme please see http://www.anamaya.net/Web/Pages/Programme.html

I am also running a Saturday meditation workshop on Visualising 2010 & Beyond this month. It is on 23rd January and is your chance to totally immerse yourself in where you want to be in 2010 in order to manifest it :) Please e-mail me directly to book: bindi@anamaya.net

With all this wintry weather, I thought I would recommend a warming breathing exercise called Suryabheda. Surya means sun in Sanskrit and the inhalations are done via the right nostril which relates to the sun. The left nostril is closed and the breath taken in by the right nostril; the breath is retained briefly and then exhaled from the left nostril.

This breath will be heating for the body. Contra-indications are if you have heart disease, high blood pressure or epilepsy. Please do ask if you have questions on it and I will be happy to demonstrate the breath to you via webcam/skype.

Have a wonderful week, keep warm :) and I hope to see you soon,
